Some great news ...
Just announced by Creation, Casey and Vaughn will be among the guests at their Official Star Trek Convention in San Francisco in the new year!
The con is between Jan 23 and 24, at the Westin St. Francis Hotel, 335 Powell Street.
They will join other guests already confirmed of William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Jeffrey Combs, Armin Shimmerman, and Max Grodenchik.
Also, they'll be part of the THE STAR TREK "Rat Pack" SHOW, to quote the website:
"Performing LIVE & IN PERSON at the famous SATURDAY NIGHT
Creation STAR TREK CELEBRITY Dessert PARTY!
They were a smash hit in Las Vegas in a beautifully funny show written by Max Grodenchik so we just had to bring them to San Francisco. Join us to bring down the house for Armin Shimerman, Vaughn Armstrong, Jeffrey Combs, Casey Biggs and Max Grodenchik in this very special performance that you are going to LOVE! The dessert party is an exclusive event for our GOLD WEEKEND Patrons only."
Full details on the website: Creation San Franciso Star Trek Con
Casey, Vaughn, can you tell us any more about the show? _________________ Dance like no-one is watching

Casey, Vaughn, Jeff Combs, Armin Shimerman, and Max Grodenchik performed in Las Vegas in tuxedos, a la the Rat Pack (Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Joey Bishop, Peter Lawford, Sammy Davis Jr - am I missing anybody? - used to perform almost impromptu at some hotels in Vegas in the 50's and 60's and then filmed the original Ocean's Eleven together). The Star Trek Rat Pack did mostly music parodies that Max wrote and were really very good. They seemed to have a lot of fun with each other as well. They sang both at the Gold party at the top of the Stratosphere on Thursday night and then on Friday afternoon as well. I got no video of that (strictly verboten) but plenty of pictures. Vaughn's got a new classic from that set - sung to the tune of If I were King of the Forest from Wizard of Oz, the lyrics were something like If I Were Admiral Forrest. Complete with growl - it was priceless!
Obviously Adam and Gary from Creation also thought it was a success and thus the return engagement.

Would love to see that, too. I bet it's an absolute delight to watch. Darn! I don't think I can make it to San Francisco in January. _________________

Wow, that's a really good question. They didn't designate which was which, but you could say there were some signs. I mean, Casey had a drink in his hand the most and that suave thing going on, so I guess he might be Dean Martin. And Vaughn did sing that King of the Forest song (although with Admiral Forrest words), so perhaps he's Frank. Max has that all around talent thing going on (writing, singing, etc) so maybe Sammy for him, although Joey Bishop was supposedly the glue of the group (at least that's what he used to say) and definitely the funny man, so that could be Max. So maybe Sammy's counterpart could be Armin, certainly an all around talent (and he did look cool with the sunglasses on!) Peter Lawford was more of an actor than a singer (that's putting it nicely), so maybe Jeff Combs for him, although I think Combs has Lawford beat on the singing part and they're not even on the same planet when it comes to acting.
It seems like I have too much time on my hands to do all this analysis. The most important thing was this ST Rat Pack seemed to be having a good time on stage and they gave the audience a great show. I think the crowd really liked it and, like I said in an earlier post, Creation must have agreed since they're repeating the performance. _________________ If you're not going to learn from your mistakes, don't make any! |

That sounds like something not to miss. Even more the bummer that SF next January is out of the question for me. *sigh* _________________

No wonder the crowd liked it!
I met Sinatra once (spooky...) but never had the opportunity to see Dean Martin or to see two or three of them perform together.
I'd love to see the EBB as the Rat Pack! Would be a great idea to have them performing in Europe as well _________________ Starboard Continuum |

Oh, it was a little bizarr and happened incidentally, back then when I was in my 20's.
There was a concert in Germany which I did not attend but my brother, his girlfriend, my boyfriend and I went there to pick up a friend after the concert.
We had no idea of the huge crowd coming out of the hall which was completely sold out. Impossible to find our friend (it was the pre-cellphone time for us ), so we checked the hotel lobby near the hall, but from the back entrance.
We stood there at the entrance, looking around for her and suddenly three men in black suits and two of them with sunglasses (really, they were wearing them!) came our direction. I wasn't aware of them (at least I didn't notice they were heading towards us) and kept standing there, looking around while my boyfriend (thanks, by the way....), my brother and his girlfriend had already turned around, leaving me alone and standing there like an idiot...
Suddenly I spotted Sinatra a few metres away. The stuff obviously was about to block the area.
Anyway, The bodyguards kept coming towards me and Sinatra waved at least one of them back, but the two remaining looked quite impressive. I think I looked startled or something because Sinatra raised a hand into my direction and said something in a friendly tone which I did not understand acoustically (damnit, wish I knew what it was...). Seconds later I was fllanked by the bodyguards and one them said in a very deep voice "leave..."
I did. No problem.
Well, they did their job, probably preventing people from asking for autographs or something - which I would never ever dream of doing. Bothering people in a restaurant or bar or somewhere... never. Not to mention that I actually wasn't looking for Frank Sinatra but for my friend.
That was my Sinatra-encounter. The one and only. By the way, we did not find our friend because she was picked up by someone else and on her way home when we were still searching the area - far away from the entrance of the hotel lobby.

Isn't it? Who else can say that she met Frank Sinatra and then was shooed away by his body guards? Too bad you didn't hear what he said, Tina. _________________

| I will try to go to San Francisco at this time. I haven't been there for 1 1/2 years, so I should have a good chance to request a flight over that excact date. Does anyone know if it is possible to get tickets for the con only a couple of weeks before the event, or does it sell out quickly? The earliest I could get tickets is in the last week of December. |

According to convention website, the "Rat Pack" is only performing at Saturday night Dessert party and it's for Gold ticket holders only. (Sometimes they have extra tickets on sale for Dessert party; usually they don't). Gold ticket prices are going up on November 2, but it looks like there's still plenty left. And they almost always have a few tickets on sale on e-bay in the last weeks or so.
This convention's unusual for Creation in that it's only two days (Sat and Sun), not their normal three.
Hope you get to go - San Francisco's one of the best cities to visit.

Hi Everyone!!
I'm so excited to say that Judy and I have made arrangements to be in San Francisco and I can't wait! (but don't tell Vaughn, we want to surprise him). I'm a native Californian and have never visited San Francisco. I hope our quick trip leaves us a little bit of time to see the city. We're doubly excited to be able to see the ST Rat Pack on this go round since we didn't get the chance in Vegas. With all the rave, we just had to see it this time.
Hope to see as many of you as possible there. As I tell Judy when I get a chance, "Only 78 more days".
All my love,
Candace |
